Hyderabad City Corporators Want to Quit For Telangana

While several city MLAs have already submitted their resignations in support of separate Telangana state, corporators of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) of Congress, Telugu Desam and BJP are planning to resign from their posts, especially those representing surrounding municipal circles. A few months ago, the corporators also participated in a hunger strike in support of separate state of Telangana and even wanted to move a resolution in the GHMC council.

In the wake of current developments, corporators have decided to submit their resignations to express solidarity with their legislators and MPs and have sought permission to do so from their party leadership. While Congress has 52 corporators, its ally MIM has a strength of 43, TDP 45, BJP five, PRP one and four independents. “All the five BJP corporators are ready to resign, but we want our Congress colleagues to take the initiative. Since mayor Banda Karthika Reddy is in Australia, we will wait for her to return and will demand her resignation also,” said BJP floor leader (GHMC) Bangari Prakash

Congress corporators met on Monday and discussed the resignation issue with GHMC Congress floor leader Kaleru Venkatesh. “We have expressed solidarity with our party MLAs and MPs who have resigned. Our corporators are also ready to resign,” Venkatesh said.

Telugu Desam corporators have also decided to meet in a day or two to discuss the issue. Corporators from Patancheru and Ramachandrapuram divisions M Sapna Dev and B Pushpa have expressed their willingness to resign. The lone PRP corporator M Narsimha Yadav is also ready to resign along with Congress members
