Telangana government to start 33 Gurukuls and 15 BC degree colleges

The state government has issued orders for setting up 33 BC gurukuls and 15 BC degree residential colleges a new.

These are in addition to the existing 261 BC Gurukuls taking the total to 310. The new Gurukuls will accommodate 7,920 students and colleges will enroll 3,600 students and an additional 11,520 students will benefit.

By the time of the formation of a separate Telangana state, there were 19 BC residential schools. The visionary chief minister Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao accorded top priority to education for socially backward classes and launched Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Residential Schools in 2017-2018. The government opened 119 schools in that year and another 119 schools in 2019-2020 and also 19 junior colleges and one-degree college. In a phased manner, the schools were upgraded to junior colleges.

Presently, there are 143 BC schools, 119 school-cum-junior colleges, 19 junior colleges, and one-degree college. A total of 1,52,440 students are studying in these institutions.

The BC welfare minister G Kamalakar thanked the chief minister Mr KCR for his kind gesture.

In eight degree colleges, the government has introduced computer courses and allocated Rs 80 crore for setting up water heaters in Gurukuls.

Minister Mr Kamalakar said they were receiving an unprecedented number of applications for admission into BC educational institutions and keeping in view the demand, the chief minister was kind enough to sanction more schools and colleges for the backward classes communities.
