TRIGP to improve economic conditions of poor

With an ambitious goal of making Telangana poverty free by 2017, the State Government will be launching Telangana Rural Inclusive Growth Project (TRIGP- Palle Pragati) with the technical and financial assistance from the World Bank.

The objective of the project is to enable selected poor household to diversify and enhance source of income and secure increased access to human development services, integrating small and marginal farm and off farm producers to urban markets by making them competitive through value addition and creating jobs for youth in semi urban and urban locations and increasing coverage of social safety net and social risk management programme.

The project is also aiming at bringing various social protection schemes together on to one synergic platform and will invest in information and communication technology, social accountability and transparency mechanism for improving service delivery in a sustainable manner so that the quality of life of poorest of the poor can get improved and they also share the fruits of the development.

Beginning with Kowdipally in Medak district, the programme will be implemented in nine districts of the State – Adilabad (30), Karimnagar (11) Khammam (17), Mahabubnagar (30), Medak (17), Nalgonda (13), Nizamabad (5) Ranga Reddy (9) and Warangal (18). These mandals were selected based on high prevalence of SC/ST population within a mandal and high female literacy rate, more un-irrigated land

“Under the project, we will be focusing on increasing entrepreneurial skills among the rural poor. We are trying to enable small and marginal farmers and dairy producers to reach the markets by investing in value addition and procession. This will naturally create a space for them. Being nearer to Hyderabad, we can take much advantage,” said DRDA Project Director Mr. Sataynaranaya Reddy.
