Telangana JAC ‘bus yatra’ from tomorrow

The leaders of Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) will go on a bus yatra from April 10 to 22, ahead of an intensified agitation demanding separate Telangana after April 24.

This was decided at the programmes committee meeting of JAC here on Saturday under the chairmanship of M. Kodandaram.

According to the schedule, the bus will start from Cherlapalli industrial area on April 10 after a torch light demonstration to pay tributes to Telangana martyrs. The bus will cover Vikarabad, Tandur and Chevella on April 11, Medak on April 12 and Kamareddy and Nizamabad on April 13.

The JAC will celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti across Telangana with rallies and meetings on April 14 and resume the bus yatra the next day. The second phase of yatra will be finalised later, Mr. Kodandaram told media persons after the meeting.

He added that the yatra was aimed to expose the attitude of Congress and TDP towards the demand for separate Telangana. While the Congress failed to fulfil its promise to grant Statehood, the TDP shirked responsibility to mount pressure on Congress to concede the demand.

APRIL 24 DEADLINE

Mr. Kodandaram also said the deadline of April 24 was set for announcement of the State in view of the resumption of the budget session of Parliament on that day. The meeting considered this the right time for a decision on Telangana. [The Hindu]
