New Delhi: Telangana Congress MPs on Thursday met in the Capital and decided to mount pressure on the Congress High Command for an early decision on Telangana. The Centre has already made a declaration on December 9, 2009, of setting in motion the process of creating separate Telangana. Time has come for the Centre and the Congress High Command to honour that commitment. The Seemandhra MPs, who opposed the move in the past, should now cooperate, they appealed.
Referring to Andhra Pradesh Minister T G Venkatesh demand that the rights of the people of Rayalaseema should be protected, Gutta Sukhender Reddy said even in water-sharing, the allocations made by different Tribunals in the past, will be honoured. “We should all part as brothers,” Sukhender Reddy said.
Manda Jagannatham said that the Gentlemen’s Agreement and the Six-Point Formula were all honoured more in breach than in practice. After the formation of Telangana, all the resources will be equitably shared, he said. Referring to the formation of three States of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand earlier, he said no problems were created by it. It is all the more reason that Telangana, too should be created, he said.
Ponnam Prabhakar said it was said in the past that a vote for the YSRCP is a vote for division of the State. The result has come and Telangana should be created, he said. “Don’t compel us to stay in united Andhra Pradesh,” he warned.
G Vivek praised Pranab Mukherjee for his sagacity, wide experience and being sympathetic to the cause of Telangana. “We will support him in the Presidential election and work for the realization of Telangana,” he said. [The Hans India]
