The Central government was asked to sanction Rs 7,800 crore for various infrastructure projects undertaken by the state Municipal Administration & Urban Development ministry.
Telangana MA&UD minister Mr K T Rama Rao has written a letter to Union Finance minister Ms Nirmala Sitaraman stating that the Centre was supposed to meet one-third of the estimated cost of the projects in the state.
He urged the union minister to allocate funds in the ensuing union budget being presented on February 1. The Telangana state government has decided to take up SRDP, Warangal metro neo, Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs), ORR link roads among others.
Mr Rao said it was estimated to cost Rs 8,684.54 crore for the construction of STPs of which one third should be borne by the Central government. The state government is planning for a network of STPs and came with the Integrated Sewerage Master Plan. A total of 31 STPs with 1250.50 MLDs capacity with an estimated cost of Rs 3,866.21 crore was prepared. A proposal to construct a sewer network in 2,232 kilometres with an estimated cost of Rs 3,722 was also prepared. In STP second phase of works, 10 STPs with 340.50 MLD capacity costing Rs 1,095.50 crore was also prepared. For three hybrid community model STPs, tenders were called for which are expected to cost Rs 4,818.33 crore, Mr Rama Rao explained to the union minister in his letter.
