The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) has facilitated women’s groups in Telangana to get bank loans. Under the low-interest scheme, if the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) paid their loan on time, the interest part of the loan is being paid by the state government.
Under the scheme, it was targeted to extend banks to the tune of Rs. 18,000 crore and so far Rs. 15,000 crore were disbursed meeting 83 percent of the target. Under the `Sthree Nidhi Runam’ scheme, it was targeted to give Rs 2,394 crores and to date, Rs. 1,613 crore was disbursed, achieving 67 percent of the target.
There are 4.30 lakh SHGs in Telangana state with a total membership of 46 lakh women. Of this, it was decided to extend bank loans to 3.67 lakh SHGs. So far 2.45 lakh SHGs got bank loans.
