The vainglorious BJP government at the Centre increased the cooking gas cylinder price by 56 percent in the last four years and slowly reduced the subsidy to 95 percent of beneficiaries.
After the recent hike, the 14.2 kg cylinder price stands at Rs.1,155 which was Rs. 701 in 2019. The central government allocated Rs. 37,000 crore towards subsidy in 2018-2019 now this time it allocated Rs. 1,811 crore in 2021-2022.
Despite a steep increase in the price of cooking gas cylinders, the central government contends that the gas companies are suffering losses.
