Telangana strives to manage its finances as centre disdains

Beginning from last April to January, the Telangana government income is estimated at Rs. 1,54,518 crores which is 63 percent of the budget estimation of Rs. 2,45,256 crores. State own taxes accounted for Rs. 1,05,167 crores, GST Rs. 34,729 crores, and revenue expenditure Rs. 1,24,681 crores.

The discrimination of the Central government saw reduced grants in aid and the state got only 19 percent of the expected, according to a report by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Of the total revenues, own taxes accounted for Rs. 1,05,167 crores, GST Rs. 34,729 crore, excise Rs. 14,598 crores, stamps & registration Rs. 11,806 crores, share in Central government taxes Rs. 9,205 crores, grant in aid Rs. 7,876 crores, cess Rs. 7,112 crores and non-tax revenues Rs. 10,405 crores – all put together Rs. 2,21,686 crore is estimated in the budget.

Despite non-cooperation from the Central government, the Telangana state government is trying its best to manage itself with its sound policies and programmes under the stewardship of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
