Telangana erupts in anger against water discrimination

Protests rocked Nalgonda district even on the second day against the blatant discrimination in Nagarjuna Sagar water allotment.

On Sunday, protesters led by TRS incharge K. Shashidhar Reddy laid sieze on the Palair Bridge (border between Andhra and Telangana). Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt for several hours. At Nagarjuna Sagar TRS cadres performed the ceremonial “last rites” (pinda pradhanam) to Irrigation minister Sudarshan Reddy and district minister Jana Reddy. They criticized the Telangana Congress minister for their shameless behavior.

At an all-party meeting held at Miryalagudem, leaders from TRS, Congress, TDP opposed the unilateral decision of state government. The speakers at the meeting said that drinking water needs of Nalgonda district should get priority over Seemandhra agriculture needs. It was decided to lay sieze on the office of the Superitending Engineer of Nagarjuna Sagar on Monday.

District JAC Chariman G. Venkateshwarlu, Telangana Matti Manishi Venepally Panduranga Rao and leaders from other parties participated in the meeting.
