T Cong ministers should resign and retire to ashrams: Harish

Taking exception to Congress ministers from the Telangana region keeping mum over the Nagarjunasagar water row, TRS leader T Harish Rao demanded them to resign and retire to ashrams instead of holding cabinet posts.

He also expressed his ire on senior minister K Jana Reddy for not objecting to release of water from Nagarjunasagar dam, which falls under his own Assembly constituency. Jana Reddy, who is aiming for the Chief Minster’s chair intentionally kept silent because he wants to please the Seemandhra leaders, alleged Harish Rao in a press statement on Sunday.

Clarifying that his party was not opposing release of water to the Krishna delta, the TRS leader stated that such a decision should not be taken at the expense of drinking water needs of the Telangana districts. Water in Nagarjunasagar dam reached dead storage level, but the Government is still trying to release water to Krishna delta for agricultural works.

It would create severe drinking water problem in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts, he warned. Harish Rao also slammed the continued silence of TDP and YSRCP over the issue.

“Why is that Chandrababu Naidu, who makes tall claims that both the regions were like his two eyes did not utter a single word about the injustice being meted out to Telangana people? It is very much evident that Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu, YS Vijayamma value only the Seemandhra interests,” he stated.

It may be recalled that despite protests by the TRS, CPI and New Democracy over release of water from Sagar dam to the Krishna delta, Government officials released nearly three tmcft (2,760 cusecs) of water in two spells since Friday.

On learning about this, TRS activists threatened to launch agitation, which led to officials stopping the process by Friday evening. However, after detaining the protestors, officials released water again on Friday night but stopped it in the early hours of Saturday. [The Hans India]
