According to the 2024 India Employment Report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Telangana has emerged as the top-ranking South Indian state and third among 22 major states in the country for its employment conditions. Notably, the state has recorded the lowest migration rate of 25.2%, with around 56.2% of male migrants relocating for employment purposes.
In the 2022 ILO employment condition index, Delhi claimed the top position with a score of 0.79, followed by Himachal Pradesh at 0.67. Telangana, which ranked 16th in 2019, has notably ascended to the third position in 2022. This climb follows a decline in ranking post the state’s bifurcation from Andhra Pradesh in 2014, where it dropped to 16th place in 2019.
The employment condition index specifically for males in 2022 saw Telangana securing the second spot with a score of 0.63, with Delhi leading at 0.78. The NDA-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, and states such as Odisha and West Bengal, have remained at the bottom in terms of employment conditions.
