Solar Street Lights for 10K Villages

The Telangana government is planning to take the help of the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) to overcome power crisis in the state. After providing solar water pumps to farmers and initiating two major solar power plants in the State, the government is planning to install solar street lights in around 10,000 villages.

KT Rama Rao, Minister for Panchayat Raj and IT, visited the NIRD campus in Rajendranagar on Thursday to observe the production of solar lights.

KTR along with MP Balka Suman and officials, examined various production centres at the Rural Technology Park (RTP) of NIRD and decided to take up a new project in collaboration with the NIRD to install solar power-based LED lights in more than 10,000 villages and 1200 thandas.

The minister said, “We will utilise the 40% subsidy given by MNRE and the State government will provide another 40% funds. Rest of the required funds may be covered by local bodies.”
