The Congress party is facing a rebellion of sorts from the party cadre in Parakala assembly constituency. This is the lone constituency that is going to bypolls from the Telangana region.
Initially, CM Kiran Kumar Reddy promised Parakala ticket to Gandra Jyothy, wife of Congress Chief Whip and MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy. But, hectic lobbying by district leaders opposing Gandra’s family ensured that the ticket went to Sambari Samma Rao.
Followers of Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, who were confident of securing a ticket, were canvassing in the Parakala constituency for several months and have already spent quite a large amount of money.
Irked by the decision of Congress high command, Gandra couple met CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, who apparently expressed his helplessness. Followers of Gandra also staged dharnas in front of Warangal DCC office and Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad.
This is a big shock to Gandra, who was aspiring to make Warangal district his bastion.
