Nizamabad witnessed a carnival of flowers on occasion of Bangaru Bathukamma celebrations yesterday.
The women folk started as a procession from Gol Hanuman Temple at 5 PM and reached the Collectorate grounds, the venue of Bathukamma celebrations.
Drummers, Banjara women and several organizations participated in the colorful procession. Huge Bathukammas prepared by Telangana Jagthi and Telangana Rashtra Samithi activists were the center-of-attraction at the venue.
Addressing the people who attended the celebrations, Kalvakuntla Kavitha said that Telangana Jagruthi has begun supporting the festival seven years back with an intention to preserve the culture of Telangana. She thanked the students and women, who participated in these celebrations in large numbers.
Noted singer Deshapati Srinivas sung a Bathukamma song and explained the history of the festival. TRS MLA Enugu Ravinder Reddy, Telangana Jagruthi official spokersperson Naveen Acari, Dist President Mutyala Sunil Reddy and other Telangana leaders participated in the celebrations.
Earlier, Kavitha held special prayers at Khila Ramalayam. She assured that she would strive to turn this historic temple into a major tourist attraction.
