Drivers in State to Get Rs 5 Lakh Insurance Cover

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that all the drivers in the state would get free accident insurance of `5 lakh.

Every driver in the private sector — be it those driving auto-rickshaws, cars, lorries or buses would be covered under the accident insurance scheme, the Chief Minister announced at the official May Day celebrations here Friday. The premium would be paid by the state government, he added. Rao also announced that around 12,000 journalists and Home Guards would also get free insurance.

The amount to be given to pregnant women during delivery time has also been increased from the present `10,000 to `20,000. The ex gratia given to those killed in accidents has been increased to `5 lakh instead of the present `2 lakh, the Chief Minister said. KCR recalled that the Telangana government had rolled out a scheme under which `1,000 a month is paid to 3.70 lakh woman beedi workers, as a kind of pension.

The State government also has plans to set up skill development centres in each district soon, he said.

The CM reiterated that there would be no power cuts for industries in the future. “There is no power cut for domestic consumers now. This government will ensure that there will be sufficient power for industrial consumers,” Rao said. The industrial policy of Telangana would be launched officially soon, which would ensure rapid development of industries and provide more number of jobs to Telangana youths, he promised.

“Around 1.5 lakh acres of land is ready for setting up of industries. All the big industries in the world should make a beeline to Telangana,” the Chief Minister said. Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and others were present at the function.
