1,970 Candidates in Fray for Corporation Polls

Nearly 1,350 nominations have been filed by for Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) election on Wednesday, the last day for filing nominations.

Prominent among the candidates who filed papers are TRS city president Nannapuneni Narendar, Errabelli Pradeep Rao, Gunda Prakash, Pasunuri Swarnalatha and Gundu Harshitha Reddy, daughter-in-law of MP Gundu Sudharani. The ruling TRS has so far announced names of their candidates for 51 wards against the total of 58.

In Khammam, around 620 candidates have submitted their papers for polls scheduled on March 6. According to Municipal Corporation commissioner G Venugopala Reddy, the scrutiny process would be done on Thursday and withdrawals are allowed on Friday.

Meanwhile, elections observers and IAS officers K Ilambarthi and Danakishore visited Khammam and held a meeting with district collector and other officials.

They also visited few polling and counting centers along with district collector DS Lokesh Kumar, who explained to observers that as many as 222 polling centers have been set up for the elections.

KMC commissioner G Venugopala Reddy, Khammam RDO Vinay Krishna Reddy and other officials attended the meeting.
