Dashing hopes of Seemandhra MPs, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj has categorically stated that BJP will not back any move that will stall the Telangana statehood process.
Sushma Swaraj has been consistently backing the Telangana statehood movement, and is seen as the key person in formulating the BJP’s strategy towards this issue.
Sushma was in South Africa, when the Seemandhra MPs approached the BJP for support. Initially party senior leader LK Advani gave some hope to the SA MPs by assuring that BJP would look into the issue of support.
But as soon as Sushma Swaraj came back from South Africa, she had a round of deliberations with her party colleagues and issued a clear statement. She said that since the main goal of Seemandhra MPs was to pull down the UPA government and stall the Telangana bill, BJP would not be supporting such a move.
She has been in South Africa as part of the Indian delegation attending the memorial service for Nelson Mandela, but as soon as she returned she had a brief meeting with party leaders and on Thursday she openly said the BJP will not support any move that will weaken the Telangana cause or the Bill.
Sushma’s statement has virtually sealed the fate of the no-confidence motion given by Seemandhra MPs, even if it gets admitted and debated.
Having realized that their no-confidence motion drama is not going to succeed, the Seemandhra MPs continued to obstruct the speaker from reading out the motion. They kept creating ruckus in the house, so that it gets adjourned.
