With your continued patronage, Mission Telangana web portal completes one year of existence this week.
The last one year has been a momentous journey for us. From a handful of visitors in our first weeks, Mission Telangana has grown by leaps and bounds and is today attracting thousands of visitors everyday from across the globe.
While there are a few web portals that cater exclusively to the Telangana audience, Mission Telangana was conceived to be different in more ways than one.
Bringing out well-researched information about Telangana, providing up-to-date information on the ongoing statehood movement and countering the vicious anti-Telangana propaganda on the internet were the three main goals with which we have started this journey.
Perhaps no other movement in the world history has faced the kind of negative media portrayal that Telangana statehood movement has received.
Why is it so?
It is because the Telugu media is virtually dominated by businessmen and journalists from Seemandhra region. While 6 Telugu newspapers (Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy, Sakshi, Andhra Bhoomi, Andhra Prabha & Vaartha) are opposing Telangana statehood movement, only one newspaper – Namasthe Telangana, which was started just 6 months ago, supports the statehood movement.
The bias is similar when it comes to TV news channels. There are 10 channels with a clear anti-Telangana agenda (TV9, ETV, NTV, ABN, Sakshi, ITV, Studio N, MAA, Gemini, TV1), while only T-News channel is supportive of the statehood movement.
It is much worse when it comes to internet. There are about 100 ‘web portals’, which combine Telugu cinema, sleaze and politics – and make one poisonous concoction – but the ultimate aim of these ‘portals’ is to spit venom on the Telangana statehood movement.
We began our journey in January 2011, with an intention to balance this scenario. And we received instantaneous support from Telanganites across the globe.
Here is a recap of some popular news stories from last one year: (links open in new window)

The Road Ahead:
In our second year, we wish to re-dedicate ourselves to our core goals and expand the portal to include a lot more Telangana-related content.
One of the top most things on our agenda is to publish experiences of several Telangana activists, who remain in the background of our great struggle.
We also appeal to Telangana activists and organizations to share any Telangana-related information with us. It could be a news article about a current event, a press release, a book review or an inspiring experience. It could be a rare photograph or a contemporary video. Please use Mission Telangana to distribute your content.
A special appeal to Telangana NRI organizations to send us updates about the programs that they are doing.
