Telangana is the only state in the country which is implementing the maximum number of recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Committee for improving the profitability of agriculture, TRS MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy has claimed.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he accused the opposition of using farmers’ distress and suicides to drive political mileage.
Listing the initiatives taken by the government for farmers’ welfare, he said supply of genuine seeds, earmarking `450 crore as market intervention fund, allocation of `1,000 crore for building granaries were all part of the Swaminathan Committee’s recommendations.
“The ex gratia of ` 6 lakh to the bereaved kin of farmers is the best in the country. As many as 13 departments are taking up the measures needed for farmers’ welfare,’’ he said.
