Telangana NRI Forum (TeNF) celebrated Bathukamma and Dasara celebrations on a grand scale. The event was held at Lampton School auditorium in West London. Around 800 plus Telanganites attended the event from different parts of UK.
Main attraction during this celebration were colourful Bathukamma’s which were prepared by Telangana women living in the UK. Every one appreciated the way women participated in traditional puja and dance, though they are staying abroad.
As per tradition Bathukammas were immersed in water and sacred food (‘Saddula Prasadam’) was offered to everyone. Every one prayed to Sacred Shami Tree – usually worshiped during Dasara – which was brought from India. Attendees praised TeNF efforts in bringing Shami tree from India. This was done for the first time in the history of NRI organisations. Delicious festival food was then served with a number of varieties.
TeNF founder member Anil Kurmachalam mentioned that this year’s Bathukamma is very special as Telangana state formation has crossed number of milestones and is currently in the last phase. He also emphasised that TeNF has been carrying out activities as per instructions from TJAC and expressed his happiness over hundreds of families being able to gather in one place in UK to celebrate Telangana festivals.
Children’s fancy dress entertained attendees. Children dressed up like Telangana and National personalities, which was a highlight of the event.
