Telengana to Introduce LT Lines for Irrigation Quarters

The state government has decided to provide power through low tension (LT) lines for domestic customers staying in irrigation project staff quarters in the state.

Supply of power through HT lines for domestic consumers residing in the staff quarters of irrigation projects has been causing loss to the exchequer.

Irrigation minister T Harish Rao and Energy minister G Jagadish Reddy took a decision to this effect at a review here on Wednesday.

The State government also decided to transfer all the domestic power connections from irrigation to local Discoms. The state government has incurred heavy losses due to supply of power through HT connections during the last 40 years, the ministers observed.

The government had recently made certain changes in the supply of power for domestic users in irrigation quarters located at Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects. The same policy would be implemented to all quarters.

As part of the changes, the TSNPDCL would fix metres at every house in the quarters and power bills would be sent to the employees.

The irrigation department too will clear all power dues to TSNPDCL from the power consumption of employees in quarters. From hereafter, the irrigation department will take care of the power needs of the irrigation projects and the Discom will take care of the domestic power needs of the employees staying in the quarters.

The irrigation department will also release required funds to TSGenco for preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) on the proposed Dummugudem hydro-electric project.
