Telangana state tops the states in the country in providing safe drinking water to the citizens through its flagship programme Mission Bhagiratha. The Panchayat Raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said during the last year they collected 1.74 lakh samples and found only 411 samples contaminated. The rate of contamination was only 0.23 per cent compared to conservative supplies. The fear of water borne diseases in the state has vanished with the mission bhagiratha project conceived by chief minister Mr KCR.
The minister said that the idea of providing safe drinking water was unheard of and never conceived by the rulers in the past and the credit goes to Mr KCR.
The Mission Bhagiratha has been providing safe drinking water now to even remote tribal hamlets. In the past the people in inaccessible hamlets had to trek long distances and many abutting the forest tracts had to depend on springs in dried up streams and rivulets.
