Telangana journalists appealed to governor ESL Narasimhan to restrain the AP government from acting against the law or create unnecessary friction between the people of AP and Telangana states by frivolous litigations or charges, more particularly with regard to media.
Telangana journalists called on the governor at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday in the wake of AP government notices on T-News channel.
TS Press Academy chairman Allam Narayana,T-News MD J Santhosh, IJU secretary-general Devulapally Amar, T-News CEO M Narayana Reddy, Namasthe Telangana daily chief editor K Sheker Reddy, Sakshi EE Dilip Reddy and others called on the governor.
In their memorandum, the journalists stated that they could complain against the highhanded trespass of AP police officer notice to T-News to local Telangana police but restrained in the interest of maintaining good relations between the two states.
“Such highhanded behaviour poses a serious threat to freedom of expression of the media, including electronic. Such a right of expression is guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution and cannot be interfered by any government or its agencies,” the journalists said in the memorandum.
They further explained to the governor that broadcast audio version of AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s voice, did not contain any indecent words not was intended to malign any person. “The public tranquility was nowhere disturbed. The law and order remained peaceful as ever,” they said and added that charges by AP police were based on unwarranted presumptions.
“It is high time that the AP government abstain from interfering with the media, particularly Telangana and show respect to law to take its own course in the case of cash-for-vote, without interference or sabotage,” the journalists said.
