Telangana Jagruthi to Give Rs 2,500 Per Month to Distressed Farmers’ Kin

Stating that 786 distressed farmers have ended their lives since the formation of state, Telangana Jagruthi founder president and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha has said her organisation would come to the rescue of those families who have not received compensation from the government side.

Kavitha, attributed the failures of the successive governments over the decades for farmers’ suicides and said that the 15-month-old TRS government cannot be blamed for the suicides.

Speaking to newsmen here on Sunday, Kavitha said of the 786 suicides that took place, the Telangana government had extended compensation to 397 of them. ‘’The government has its own impediments and rules. It can’t come to the rescue of all those who committed suicide,’’ she said adding that it is at this juncture that Telangana Jagruthi will come into the picture.

The Telangana Jagruthi will step in where the government cannot, she added. Kavitha said her organisation will extend a financial assistance of Rs 2,500 every month to each and every family of the 389 farmer families who were not provided with compensation by the government.

‘’We will give this support for the next four years,’’ Kavitha announced. This would cost the organisation Rs 10 lakh per month.

Also, the Telangana Jagruthi will take the responsibility of education and other needs of the family members of the 397 farmer families to whom the compensation was paid by the government.

‘’We have 1.20 lakh volunteers across the state and they will visit these families and find their needs and demands,’’ Kavitha said.

The MP further said the TRS government had drawn plans to mitigate the sufferings of the farmers.

Reacting about the oppostion bandh on Saturday, she said: ‘’The opposition parties entertained the people before Dasara by their puli veshalu.’’
