The demand for separate Telangana paralysed proceedings in the Lok Sabha for the second day on Tuesday with agitating members of the TRS, TDP and Congress storming the well to press for immediate statehood.
It was trouble from the time the House assembled for the day as slogan-shouting members from the Telangana region, carrying placards, rushed to the well demanding a separate state.
Chanting slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’, they wanted immediate introduction of the Bill to create the separate state.
JD(U) members joined them in the well raising slogans against Team Anna for using derogatory language against parliamentarians.
Amid uproar, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House for till noon.
Similar scenes were witnessed when the House reassembled. The Speaker directed laying of papers and called SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to speak on the Union Budget.
As the din continued, Ms. Kumar adjourned the House till 2 p.m after Yadav’s brief participation in the discussion.
Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said the government should heed to the demands for a separate Telangana state for which her party was willing to extend support. [PTI]
