The ruling TRS government has so far spent Rs 885 crore for foreign education for students under the Mahatma Jyothirao Phule foreign education scheme and Ambedkar foreign education fund.
A total of 935 SC students, 208 STs, 1,603 BCs and 2,173 minority students benefited from the scheme so far.
In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the foreign education scholarships were limited to SC and STs. In separate Telangana, the scheme now covers BC, EBC, minorities and the poor among upper castes.
Under the scheme, each student gets a financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh which was only Rs 10 lakh in United Andhra Pradesh.
Those with an annual income of Rs 4.5 lakh annual income.
The students can pursue courses in humanities, economics, accounts and arts.
Those pursuing post graduation and PhD in USA, Britain, Canada and other countries are getting help from the Telangana government.
