Even as all other parties are surging ahead in campaigning, the Telangana Congress is virtually in a state of limbo as most of the leaders are keeping themselves away from the electioneering activity.
Barring a few exceptions, the TPCC leaders are staying away from Gandhi Bhavan, the headquarters of the party. Senior and prominent leaders like K Jana Reddy, Shabbir Ali, V Hanumantha Rao, D Nagendar, M Mukhesh Goud, P Sabitha Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, B Saraiah, G Venkata Ramana Reddy and D Srinivas have been staying away from the party office. Party MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, Madhu Yaski Goud and others are also keeping themselves away from the party activities and have hardly visited the party office. Even campaign committee chairman C Damodar Raja Narasimha and working president N Uttam Kumar Reddy have been maintaining silence.
Except Ponnala, most of the seniors are staying away from Gandhi Bhavan
Though Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to visit the State next week, no details have been worked out so far regarding the venue and other arrangements. There is hardly any poll related atmosphere visible in the Telangana Congress offices. A senior leader of the party said that while their counterparts in Seemandhra like N Raghuveera Reddy, K Chiranjeevi and others were going full steam into the campaign, Telangana Congress campaign vehicles are yet to roll on. Seemandhra leaders conduct media conferences in Indira Bhavan, the headquarters of Andhra Pradesh Congress, regularly while there is no activity in Gandhi Bhavan. Telangana Rashtra Samithi president Chandrasekhar Rao has been making strident attacks on the Congress every day and there is no leader from Congress other than P Laxmaiah to retort him.
While Telugu Desam Party held two meetings in Telangana region but Congress has not conducted even a single meeting so far, another leader pointed out. The non-cooperation in Congress began as soon as Laxmaiah was made president of Telangana unit, said Congress sources. The absence of senior leaders in Gandhi Bhavan is reflective of the resentment over the appointment of Laxmaiah as PCC president, the sources felt. The situation at the headquarters is unnerving the party workers at the district levels. No programmes are being taken up at district level to attract the attention of voters.
