Telangana Bandh To Continue

Even though the UPA government troed to convey a message that it is taking some steps to delete the controversial Clause 14 F, the Telangana Student JAC has decided to go ahead with the Telangana Bandh on tomorrow – 10th August.

Earlier the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) met under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and decided to request the President Pratibha Patil to delete 14F Clause. But as was evident by late evening, the process might take several days. The recruitment exam for police officers in the state is scheduled for 14th August and it is clear the deletion of 14F would not be possible by then.

The AP state government headed by Kiran Kumar Reddy has adamantly decided to go ahead with the recruitment exam, in spite of several requests from students and political party leaders from the Telangana region.

The Osmania University JAC leaders have issued a statement that they would not withdraw their agitation until the Central Government issues orders for deletion of 14F.

The Telangana Political JAC and scores of Telangana employee unions, people’s organizations have extended their support for tomorrow’s bandh. [Mission Telangana News]
