Telangana activists arrested ahead of “Chalo Assembly”

To foil the plans of Telangana protagonists to participate in the ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme on June 14, police have started arresting Telangana activists.

As part of their ongoing agitation for a separate Telangana state, TJAC had decided to mobilise Telangana sympathisers to mount pressure on the government to take an immediate decision on the separate state.

Police authorities have set up a check post at Baswapur village in Bhiknur mandal, on national highway 44, to prevent Telangana sympathisers from proceeding to Hyderabad to take part in the ‘Chalo Assembly’ agitation.

On Sunday, the police arrested 11 persons while they were travelling to Hyderabad on two-wheelers. Police are also watching the movements of Telangana protagonists who actively participated in previous agitations.

About 200 Telangana protagonists belonging to various political parties including TRS, BJP, CPI (ML) New Democracy and also student union leaders have been taken into preventive custody in Nizamabad district. Some of them were ‘bound-over’ before various mandal tehsildars.

Besides seven BJP activists, TRS Nizamabad urban constituency in-charge, Basawa Laxminarsaiah and other party workers were also ‘bound-over’ before the tehsildars on Monday.

TJAC chairman Gopal Sarma criticised the police authorities for treating Telangana protagonists like dacoits and other anti-social elements.
