Parupalli Kashyap, who won a gold in a singles event after a gap of 32 years in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games, was handed over a cheque of `50 lakh by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the Independence Day celebrations at Golconda Fort on Friday.
The shuttler was also presented with `25 lakh for reaching the quarter final at the London Olympics.
KCR, on the occasion, also presented cheques of `50 lakh and `20 lakh to ace badminton star Saina Nehwal for her bronze medal at the London Olympics and gold at the Australian Open tournament.
Similarly, while Jwala Gutta was awarded `25 lakh for her silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, Gagan Narang was awarded `50 lakh, `25 lakh and `15 lakh for his performances in the London Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
Another badminton star PV Sindu was given a cheque of `25 lakh and `15 lakh for her bronze medal performances at the World Championship and the Commonwealth games respectively. RMV Gurusai Datt was presented with a `15 lakh cash award for his bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. Badminton coaches Pullela Gopichand and Md Arif were presented with `50 lakh and `25 lakh respectively.
Other sportsmen, who participated in international tournaments were also presented with awards.
Nikhat Zareen, who won the gold medal at the World International Women’s Boxing in 2010 was handed over `50 lakh and Kabaddi gold medalist Mamata Pujari was awarded `25 lakh. Everst conquerors Malavath Poorna and Anant Kumar were presented with cash awards.
