Separate IMA unit for Telangana formed

The state unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) took a historic decision, and unanimously passed a resolution to bifurcate the body on regional basis and create a separate unit for Telangana.

The decision was taken by the working committee comprising delegates of Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telan-gana regions, at the 54th annual state conference of IMA held at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC). There was no dissent from delegates from either Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

“The bifurcation of state IMA body into Telangana Indian Medical Association (TIMA) has nothing to do with politics. The demand for separation from the IMA state body has to be seen in the light of humanitarian grounds,” said Dr M. Seshu Madhav, president of district IMA unit.

IMA sources said that decision to bifurcate the state IMA body received formal nod from Dr D.R. Rai, national secretary general of IMA.
