Rs 8 Crore Tourism Project in Nalgonda District Proposed

In a bid to give boost to tourism in Nalgonda district and at the same time encourage artisans to promote their wares and market them more effectively, a Rs 8-crore project has been proposed by the district tourism department.

During ‘Mana Vooru-Mana Pranalika’ programme held a couple of months ago in the district, the officials of Nalgonda tourism department came out with a proposal to set up Nilagiri Urban Haat on the lines of Shilparamam in Hyderabad. It was one of the 9-10 proposals made for improving tourism infrastructure in the district at the meeting.

According to district tourism officer Mahidar, they propose to construct the Urban Haat, which will be common platform for all the artisans and craftsman from different parts of the district to display their wares and find the potential buyers and market for them, would be constructed in four to five acres of land.

“It will have 25 huts like stalls, where the craftsman can display their products in an engaging manner. The entire setting would be akin to villge crafts fare. Apart from the stalls, there will be an amphitheatre, where cultural programmes will be organised. There will also be a multi-purpose hall and a guest house apart from an administrative block,’’ he explained.

Now the department is engaged in preparing a detailed project report and expects the Central government to take a favourable decision. According to sources, a proposal was made to the centre under the 14th Finance Commission for setting up Shilparamams in all the districts of Telangana to promote artisans and weavers.
