One-time MP, one-time MLC, and incumbent MLA. He is a leader who always held power since he was active in politics in one form or the other. Still, it seems he didn’t win people’s hearts. Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, a Congress MLA who switched his loyalty to the BJP, has invited an unwarranted bypoll to the Munugode assembly constituency for no strong reason. But, as the polling date is fast approaching, it is becoming evident that his decision didn’t go well with the electorate of Munugode.
Rajagopal Reddy and his supporters who are touring the constituency are facing stiff resistance. ‘Go back Rajagopal Reddy’ and ‘Rajagopal Reddy down down’ slogans are reverberating on the streets where he once received a warm welcome. The people have understood Rajagopal Reddy’s motives behind resigning his seat. Reddy has sold himself to the BJP for contracts is now the popular sentiment in the constituency and it is echoing all over.
Even the BJP cadre, who went to door-to-door canvassing, were shocked to realize that many people in the villages still think Rajagopal Reddy is Congress. Making them understand that Reddy is now contesting on the BJP ticket has itself become an arduous task for the foot soldiers of the party.
The future seems bleak for Rajagopal Reddy and he needs nothing short of a miracle to turn the tables. Things are gradually going out of the ex-MLA’s hands and the frustration is visible in his speeches.
