Protests jam traffic, Hyd comes to a standstill

Hyderabad: The city came to a standstill on Wednesday from early morning as the TRS and Telangana Political JAC blocked the roads at more than 50 places as part of the rasta roko organised in protest against the alleged police attack on TNGO leader Swamy Goud on Tuesday.

In a coordinated action plan, leaders blocked the traffic at various important junctions to condemn the way Goud was handled and demanded action against the guilty officials. Tension prevailed at some places when protesters and police clashed.

At Abids circle, JAC president M Kodandaram and BJP senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya along with Telangana workers squatted on the road obstructing the traffic for more than half-an-hour. When the situation went out of control, the police arrested the leaders.

Addressing the activists, Prof. Kodandaram alleged that the government had conspired to destabilise the Telangana movement by attacking TRS and JAC leaders with police forces. The police attack on TNGO leader was a deliberate attempt to kill him and demanded the government to take action against the police officials responsible.

He also participated in the road roko at Paradise Circle and Telangana Advocates JAC dharna. He is likely to go to Singareni coal mines area on Thursday. Mild tension prevailed at Mettuguda where the TRS senior leader and MLA KT Rama Rao staged rasta roko.

The T workers scuffled with police when they tried to lift KTR physically from the place. As KTR resorted to protest by lying on the road, the party activists surrounded him and prevented the police from lifting him.

It took quite some time for the police to clear the activists and bodily lift KTR and bundle him into a police van. KTR said the TRS will continue the agitation for Telangana. “We will not be cowed down by the police attacks on the leaders. Telangana people will revolt against the government,” he said.

At Hitech City, TRS MLA T Harish Rao obstructed vehicular traffic for more than half an hour. He sat on the road and demanded government to take action against West Zone DCP for attacking the TRS and JAC leaders at RTA office in Khairatabad.

He said the TRS and JAC will lay siege to Hyderabad city in the second week of October. Harish Rao castigated Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal for instigating the Telangana people through his anti- Telangana activities.

Taking part in rasta roko at Trimulgherry in Secunderabad, TRS senior leader E Rajendar demanded an end to police harassment of Telangana workers by foisting cases. Roads were also blocked at LB Nagar cross roads, Vanasthalipuram, Mojamjahi Market and Tarnaka. [The HANS India]
