The national emblem of Ashokan Lions unveiled atop the new Parliament building underway by PM Mr Modi comes in for sharp criticism.
The new emblem does not reflect the original emblem at Sarnath.
The Congress leader Mr Jairam Ramesh said it was an insult to the national symbol. Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mr Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Mr Modi distorted history. “To completely change the character and nature of lions on Ashoka’s pillar at Sarnath is nothing but a shame,” he opined.
Noted advocate Mr Prashanth Bhushan said the majestic and peaceful lions were depicted as angry and snarling atop the new Parliament building under construction. “This is Modi’s new India,” he said.
Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Mr Jawahar Sircar urged Mr Modi to change it as soon as possible and restore the regal look of lions as seen at Sarnath. “The new emblem shows the lions unnecessarily angry and disproportionate,” he said.
Another TMC leader Mahua Moitra said the true agenda of Mr Modi from Satyameva Jayate to Sanghimeva Jayate is completed with the new national symbol installed by the BJP government.
