Plan to Build New Barrage in Warangal

The state government has decided to construct a barrage across Godavari in Warangal district to tap 22 tmc of water.

The irrigation department on Tuesday ordered a detailed survey, levelling operations, geological exploration and preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for construction of the barrage on river Godavari downstream at intake pump of JCR Devadula Lift Irrigation Project. The new barrage will be located at Durgam Gutta in Gangaram village of Eturunagaram mandal in Warangal. The officials were told to prepare the design of conveyance system including pump house and enroute storage reservoirs.

The Irrigation department also accorded administrative sanction for preparation of the DPR. Considering the fact that there was no possibility of building major projects on Godavari, the state government decided to construct small barrages.

As part of this, the government accorded sanction for preparation of a DPR for the proposed barrage at Durgam Gutta.

The proposed barrage will be used to lift the additional water of 22 tmc with facilities including pump house and enroute storage reservoirs which will be constructed at an expense of `64.30 lakhs.
