No Rail Coach Factory to Telangana: Centre confirms in parliament

Dashing Telangana’s hopes for a Railway Coach Factory, the union minister for railways confirmed that there is no plan to establish a coach factory in Telangana. Much to the disappointment of crores of Telanganites, union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while answering a question posed by BRS MP Suresh Reddy in Rajya Sabha said that existing coach factories are sufficient to meet the future demand too.

“A prerequisite to setting up a Rail Coach Factory is a sustained demand for coaches in the future. Currently, the existing capacity and planned augmentation of capacities in existing factories are sufficient to meet Indian Railways requirements in the near future,” the union minister said.

A Railway Coach Factory for Telangana is a long-standing demand and it was also a part of the AP Reorganisation Act promises. The centre which has the responsibility to honour the promises has betrayed Telangana. However, the same BJP government is planning to set up a Rail Coach Factory in Kokrajhar, Assam.

Recently, minister KT Rama Rao has questioned the union government for its dual standards on coach factories. “Can any one of the BJP MPs/Union Minister from Telangana answer why the promised Kazipet Rail Coach factory is being denied while others are being considered? I am happy for Assam but the spineless BJP leadership in Telangana owes an explanation to the people of the state,” KTR wrote on Twitter.
