No guarantee for Congress guarantees

It appears that the Congress government is preparing the ground to backtrack on the implementation of one more guarantee. Kisan Congress national Vice President Kodanda Reddy has categorically said that a bonus of Rs. 500 per quintal for the paddy crop comes with a rider.

Speaking at a press meet, Reddy said that the Rs. 500 bonus will be paid only if paddy is sold below the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He added that after Congress came to power, paddy is fetching Rs. 2,600 per quintal in the market as against the MSP of Rs. 2,060.

The Rs. 500 bonus to paddy is one among the 13 guarantees that the Congress party promised during the assembly election campaign. The Congress party has already gone back on its poll promise of providing unemployment allowance. Also, Rs. 2,500 monthly financial aid to women also didn’t find mention in the budget speech.

Furthermore, the Congress government is delaying schemes such as Rythu Bharosa, Rs. 2 lakh loan waiver, and 200 units of free electricity. It has to be recalled that the Congress party promised to implement these schemes in the very next month after assuming power.
