New law to change engg. curriculum

The Telangana government is ready to come out with a new legislation to improve the curriculum in technical education making it more industry-oriented and involving industry.

The IT Minister, K.T. Rama Rao, who addressed a gathering of representatives from higher education institutions and industry, here on Thursday said that the industry’s needs would be kept in mind while framing the new rules. He said it was the first step to bring the best and practical curriculum rather than rote-oriented.

Focus
The focus is on quality and not quantity so that Telangana students emerge as the best in India. Mr. Rama Rao also emphasised on ‘teaching the teachers’ first.

The JNTU Hyderabad Registrar, N.V. Ramana Rao, explained the changes that can be brought in the curriculum to involve industry.

The figures of employable candidates was alarming, he said and explained the steps that can be taken by industry such as mentoring college teachers and involving them in the project reports seriously.
