Senior TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy organised “Telangana Nagara” meeting in his native constituency Nagarkurnool in Mahbubnagar district on Monday evening in support of separate Telangana state.
The meetng attracted the attention of the media and public because it was launched defying TD party diktat and ignoring party flag. Mr Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that the Telangana movement would be intensified from June and warned of dire consequences if there was any move to suppress the movement. Mr Nagam criticized some of his TDP colleagues who opposed his stand on the T issue, “I am not scared of anyone. I am committed to Telangana and will fight till the end for it. Our fight is against Andhraites who have looted Telangana over the years and not against ordinary folk,” he said while addressing a huge rally here.
Mr Reddy furhter added that he organized the meeting without the flag on public request and will continue the movement in the same way in all the other districts of Telangana. He gave an ultimatum to the party chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, that if the party fails to announce its commitment to Telangana by the first week of June, he would tender his resignation and submit it to the Speaker.
Interestingly, in spite of reports of pressure from Mr Naidu, six TD MLAs — Mr K. Harishwar Reddy, Mr S. , Mr Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Mr Jogu Ramanna, Mr Jaipal Yadav and Mr Ramulu besides Mahabubnagar district TD unit president, Mr Manohar, former Minister, Mr K. Vijayarama Rao, attended the meeting.
Mr Harishwar Reddy announced that the next meeting would be held in his constituency, Parigi, followed by other assembly constituencies.
