‘Mission Kakatiya will become a movement’

The ambitious “Mission Kakatiya” (restoration of minor irrigation tanks) would be taken up as a movement to bring back the lost glory to the villages in the Telangana State, said Minister for Major Irrigation Harish Rao.

Participating as chief guest at the special general body of Zilla Parishad to discuss the “Mission Kakatiya” programme in Karimnagar on Monday, Mr Harish Rao said that the programme would be launched in January 2015 and would be taken up aggressively till May in the first phase.

For effective implementation of the programme, he said that they had appointed the SEs in all the districts and also required AEs and other field staff. Stating that they would ensure cent per cent transparency in the execution of works by calling tenders through e-procurement, he said that they would also accord top priority to the quality. A CE (quality control) would be appointed at the State-level and also in the districts as nodal officers to randomly check the works.

Instructing the officials to reside at their respective places of posting, he said that the government would reward the AEs concerned by giving posting of their choice for the successful implementation of the programme during the coming five months period. Instructing the Agricultural Department authorities to conduct soil testing of tank silt, he also informed the authorities to motivate farmers for transportation of silt from the tank to their respective fields. He said that the usage of silt in the fields would increase productivity as well as reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides.

He also instructed the Educational Department authorities to conduct essay writing competitions for the students on the Mission Kakatiya and importance of restoration of tanks in all the districts. Calling upon the revenue, forest and agricultural department authorities to coordinate with the irrigation department for the restoration of tanks, he instructed the revenue authorities to remove all encroachments and fix fresh FTLs of the tanks.Minister for Finance Eatala Rajender, Zilla Parishad chairperson Tula Uma, legislators G Kamalakar, K Vidyasagar Rao, K Eshwar, S Satyanarayana, B Shoba, Rasamayi Balakishan, MLCs P Sudhakar Reddy and T Bhanu Prasad Rao, Collector M Veerabrahmaiah, Joint Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed and others were also present.
