Minister Harish Rao demands defence minister not to privatise Ordnance Factory

Finance minister T Harish Rao demanded that the centre should withdraw its decision to privatise the Ordnance Factory at Medak. In the interest of the country’s security and workers, the government should give up the idea, Harish Rao said.

About 2500 people are directly dependent and another 5000 people are indirectly dependent on the Factory. A total of 25000 people would be affected by the decision to privatise.

Mr Harish Rao wanted the government to modernise the machinery and aid the employees who proved their mettle by executing orders perfectly.

The centre should withdraw its decision as it did with the farmers’ draconian laws and assure job security to employees as it did with Prasar Bharati employees. The government should also give production orders to meet the army requirements to the Medak Factory, the minister said.
