Stating that Telangana, under Qutb Shahi rulers had prospered with a rich mix of Ganga Jamuna Tahzeeb, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday expressed the hope that the same would continue in the new State.
The State government hosted Dawat-e-Iftar for the Muslim community in all the Assembly constituencies across the State on Sunday. The Chief Minister, clad in a spotless white Sherwani and a matching Karakul hat, participated in the Iftar at the Nizam College Grounds and extended Ramzan greetings to the minority community.
As Muslim clerics and leaders broke their fast, KCR too munched on dates offered by Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahamood Ali. Addressing the gathering, KCR recalled that Mahatma Gandhi, who had visited Hyderabad in 1930, was impressed by the communal harmony in the city. “When he (Gandhi) was here at the Vivek Vardhini College, he had lavished praise on the rulers of Hyderabad. He wanted North Indians, who were then witnessing spate of communal clashes, to learn from Hyderabadis,” he said. Stating that it was due to grace of Allah that Telangana State had become a reality, the Chief Minister said his government was planning more schemes for the welfare of the Muslim community and pointed out that Dawat-e-Iftar was just the beginning. “This is just a beginning. You will see more from this government. All I need are your blessings,” he told the cheering crowd.
Listing the welfare schemes announced by the State government on the occasion of Ramzan celebrations, he said the government was distributing clothes to 1.96 lakh poor Muslims in the State. All Muslim clerics had been sanctioned monthly pension, he added.
After the evening prayers, the Chief Minister dined with MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud and Muslim clerics. The Iftar was a success with people attending the ‘unprecedented’ party.
