RS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday met senior Congress leaders from Telangana region, triggering off speculation that some ruling party MPs might join the Telangana party ahead of next year’s general polls. The TRS president went to the residence of senior Congress leader K Keshav Rao here and held talks with him for about two hours. Congress Lok Sabha member Manda Jagannatham was also present at the meeting.
Keshav Rao said they discussed political issues and strengthening of the separate statehood agitation. “TRS is leading the movement for separate Telangana. What I want to say is that we, the Telangana protagonists and Telangana Congress leaders, are ready for anything to achieve Telangana,” Keshav Rao, a former president of Andhra Pradesh Congress, told reporters after the meeting.
The TRS president feels that the separate Telangana agitation can be strengthened further if Telangana Congress leaders join his party, Keshav Rao said. There has been speculation that some of the Congress MPs from Telangana region, who have been vocal in raising the separate statehood demand, might switch over to TRS ahead of 2014 general elections. Keshav Rao said consultations would continue with more Congress MPs in the coming days. [PTI]
