Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao, who had won the Karimnagar LS seat in the 2004 general elections and in the 2006 byelections – both with a thumping majority has decided to launch his 2014 election campaign from here though he is not contesting for the Karimnagar LS seat this time.
People of this town are happy with his announcement made in Hyderabad and are eagerly awaiting his arrival. Incidentally, ever since he returned to Hyderabad from Delhi after securing statehood for Telanagana, he has not visited Karimnagar.
KCR had last visited the KCR Bhavan here in 2009 before launching his fast-unto-death for Telangana in Siddipet. He was later arrested on the outskirts of the Karimnagar on November 27, 2009 when the Telangana movement was at its peak.
Prior to that, KCR had held a two-day brainstorming session with his party leaders in Karimnagar on November 8 and 9, 2012 wherein he had promised that he would create a ‘Prabanjanam’ (massive wave) to mount the pressure on the Congress to concede the demand for statehood to Telangana.
KCR’s association with the town began in 2001, when he had launched his ‘Simha Garjana’ here. Emotionally attached to Karimnagar, he had built the North Telangana Bhavan – now renamed as KCR Bhavan – for his stay in the town. Also, over the last 13 years he had ensured that all the TRS political strategies were worked from here.
