The Goa cabinet on Wednesday issued the order of retired Supreme Court judge B Sudarshan Reddy’s appointment as Goa Lokayukta.
His swearing-in will be held on Mar 16, two days before the commencement of the Budget Session of the State Legislative Assembly.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at a press briefing at Secretariat complex.
“The Lokayukta will have liberty to choose his own staff on deputation from the government services. A police officer to the rank of deputy superintendent of police will be attached to Lokayukta,” he said. The staff will comprise of 36 members.
The government has identified few complaints to place before the Lokayukta, which will begin functioning from May.
The Congress has already compiled a few complaints against the BJP-coalition with their first complaint to the Lokayukta being industrial plots allotment scam.
Reddy was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 2, 1995 and as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court on December 5, 2005. On January 12, 2007, he was elevated as a Supreme Court judge and retired from the apex court on July 7, 2011.
