Govt to appoint 9K Vidya volunteers

With a large number of teacher posts lying vacant across the state, affecting the academic activities in government schools, the state government has decided to appoint 9,335 Vidya volunteers. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao gave his nod on Monday for appointment of the volunteers expressing hope that it will help improve the standards of school education in the state. Rao, who held discussions with deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, who also holds the education portfolio, reviewed the functioning of school education department and gave his nod for appointment of Vidya volunteers.

The CM directed the district collectors to appoint Vidya volunteers on temporary basis till the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) completes the process of recruiting regular teachers. The TS government, for the first time, has handed over the recruitment of school teachers to TSPSC rather than conducting DSC examination. The TSPS C might take a few months to complete the recruitment process and till then, the school education department will rely on Vidya volunteers to ensure quality education, an official said.
