A team of scientists from the National Bureau of Plant Genetics Resource (NBPGR) said they were amazed by the efforts of the Telangana government in protecting the forest and improving the green cover.
The scientists – Parimalan, Kerala forest college dean E V Anoop, and Himachal Pradesh forest conservator Abhilash Damodaran who came to attend a seminar at the Mulugu Forest University as chief guests visited Gajwel and Mulug areas.
They went around the forest tracts and urban park in Gajwel, Palle Prakruti vanam at Japtisingayapalli, Chetla Narasampalli, and Singayapalli forest tracts. They also visited the nurseries in Mulug.
They said the efforts to educate people about the importance and need for forests were appreciable. Usually, the forest is seen green only in October during the rainy season but in Telangana, the forest is thick green even in December which is amazing, said NBPGR scientist Mr Parimalan.
The scientists said they were happy to see the ponds in thick forests that recharge the groundwater levels enabling the trees to grow to change the very environment for the better.
Gajwel forest range office Kiran, Mulug forest university assistant professors Arjun Ramachandran and Kapil Sihag and beat officers Arjun and Shekawath accompanied the scientists.
