CM KCR unveils grand plans for Hussainsagar

Lake to be showcased as ‘jewel in crown’ of city. The lake could be encircled by towers that could house corporate and government offices, entertainment complexes, multiplexes and a host of other related structures, he said, adding that people would love to go around such towers.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asked revenue officials to survey and get details of every square foot of land surrounding the Hussainsagar and directed them to prepare an action plan to showcase it as a ‘jewel in the crown’ of Hyderabad and even transform it into a freshwater lake that it once was.

At a review meeting here on Wednesday, he said the lake surrounded by 60 to 100-storeyed buildings would look just as well and catapult the city into the big league in which modern cities around the world figured.

Towers around lake
The lake could be encircled by towers that could house corporate and government offices, entertainment complexes, multiplexes and a host of other related structures, he said, adding that people would love to go around such towers.

Mr. Rao wanted officers to freshly map every square foot of land surrounding the lake, starting from the Boat Club, Necklace Road, Jalavihar, Ambedkar Nagar, Sanjeevaiah Park, Sailing Club in Secunderabad, Marriott Hotel, DBR Mills, Lower Tank Bund and Secretariat and submit a report to the government.

There was no reason why the Hussainsagar should not be surrounded by towers such as the Petronas in Malaysia or closer home the high-rises on Mumbai’s waterfront. Several companies would come forward to construct such towers, or else the government would do it on its own and lease them out, he said, adding that the required clearances and changes in existing regulations could be effected by the government.
